social media export settings on davinci resolve
Social Media is one powerful tool for videographers! But it can also be a pain trying to keep up with trends, styles, hooks… most notable is upload settings! For myself I use Davinci Resolve for all my editing and I have created a custom ‘social media’ export settings preset.
Personally the best export settings for social media is 1080p X 1920p (VERTICAL FORMAT) 25 or 30 fps. Aim to keep the file size down as social media sites will compress the video and ruin the quality. Below is screenshots of my custom social media export settings for Davinci resolve users…
Format: I use QuickTime, have found this to be the best and not cause any playback issues.
Codec: H.264. I have used H.265 in the past and not noticed a difference
Resolution: Either keep this as your timeline settings or, make sure ‘use vertical resolution’ is ticked.
Frame rate: 25 or 30fps performs best on socials. But you can export in 24fps if you’d wish.
Quality: THIS IS IMPORTANT! Restrict to 13000 kb/s. This is very important to change as this is around the maximum kb/s you want to upload to social sites without the video being too big of a file size.
Key frames: I leave on automatic. Make sure to tick Frame reordering.
Advanced Settings
Pixel ratio: Tick square
Data Levels: Auto
Colour space & Gamma tag: I leave mine same as project as I do all my colour grading within DavVinci Resolve. Which is usually - Sony S Log 3, Cine-gammat to REC 709 via a colour space transform node.
MAKE SURE TO TICK: Bypass re-encode when possible, Force sizing to highest quality and Force debayer to highest quality
Then add to render queue!
